Technical Support Developer

Liaison International, a stable, fast-growing, and profitable (for 20 years) company that specializes in providing state-of-the-art information technology products and services to educational associations, accrediting agencies, institutions of higher education, and health professions, is seeking a candidate with skills and experience in web application development to join our technical support team and take on high profile projects immediately.

The Liaison Technical Support team is responsible for fielding Level 2 (i.e. non-customer-service, technical in nature) support issues from our primary web-based products, and coordinating the development of software fixes. The Support Developer role will be responsible for working with the technical support analysts to understand each ticket, identify the code in the application's software that is causing the problem, develop a fix, and coordinate deployment to our production environment. This Support Developer will also have opportunities to engineer tools and other software applications to streamline the operations of our technical support staff and speed our turnaround time for customer issues.

Key to success in this role is the ability to learn, understand, and document the basic code/database structures for a variety of software applications quickly, and develop a level of comfort in getting into unfamiliar code to diagnose problems. A successful candidate will have the opportunity every day to make immediate impact on customer satisfaction by turning around a fix and “saving the day”, and every day in the role will bring a new and different challenge.

What you'll be doing:

The candidate will be assisting the Technical Support team with:

  • Troubleshooting, fixing, and unit-testing web application code (database-level, middle-tier, and front-end)
  • Writing ad-hoc SQL Queries to identify & fix data problems
  • Writing scripts to automate regular tasks
  • Structuring and sending automated email blasts to our clients
  • Developing tools to streamline the service our support team provides, ensuring we meet client SLAs
  • Developing and running ad-hoc reports for our clients

What you need for this position:

  • Web Application Development experience (one or two common web application languages - Perl a strong plus)
  • Familiar with most of the following technologies: Apache / Linux (LAMP), CGI, HTML Templating (MVC frameworks), JavaScript, XML
  • SQL Experience with TSQL/ANSI SQL, writing queries and stored procedures
  • Understanding of source control systems (Subversion / Git a plus)
  • Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced application development environment
  • Ability to multitask, self-prioritize and ensure all tasks are completed on time
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
