DBA
Position Overview
The SQL Server DBA, reporting to the head of Infrastructure, will be responsible for administering, monitoring, optimizing, and improving Liaison International's database infrastructure in order to maintain excellent levels of service, performance, and availability to Liaison's clients.
In addition, this person will be also be responsible for developing and qualifying database release management/deployment procedures and collaborating with the Software Development, Quality Assurance, and Support teams.
Responsibilities:
- Database design, administration, and implementation tasks including but not limited to:
- Enforcing database naming/creation/deletion standards in the DEV, QA, Staging, and Production environments
- Performing database exports and imports, including on-demand dumps of cleansed Production data to non-production environments
- Assisting with large scale data migrations/conversions
- Establishing, overseeing, and optimizing all database maintenance (i.e. update statistics, etc) and backup processes
- Enforcing strict security measures in accordance with Liaison International's data protection policies
- Troubleshoot application database issues (i.e. quickly identify database server issues vs. application issues)
- Ensure the 24/7 availability and performance of the databases that support our systems, including "on-call" responsibilities
- Work with infrastructure team to optimize the hardware/system resources allocated to the databases, and to drive high availability & resiliency to ensure minimum downtime
- Proactively monitor the database systems & provide trend analysis to management team to enable informed decisions regarding resource management & expansion
- Recommend and implement tools for identifying hot spots in the databases (i.e. worst-performing queries, risk points, etc)
- Provide assistance to developers in data modeling/SQL performance tuning/SQL best practices, including reviewing and optimizing specific queries from all applications (CAS, Surveys, eAccreditation)
- Help design & enforce a standardized release process for all database changes
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related technical field
- In-depth Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration experience (3+ years), managing multiple MS SQL 2000 & 2005 instances
- Experience in data modeling and design including strong knowledge of SQL (T-SQL & ANSI SQL)
- Thorough knowledge of data backup/recovery/rollback planning and implementation
- Hands-on replication server knowledge (setup and troubleshooting)
- Proficiency in SQL Server 2005 optimization, fine-tuning, and scalability techniques
- Thorough knowledge of data security and strong knowledge of network architecture and topology
- Large-scale data migration experience (SQL Server 2000 - 2005)
- DBA certification (i.e. MCDBA or otherwise) a plus.
- Experience/knowledge of Data Warehousing concepts a plus
- Experience in a fast-paced web development environment a strong plus
- Familiarity with MySQL and PostgreSQL a plus.
- Familiarity with Linux a plus.
